Fernie Fixings

We headed to Fernie for my bestie’s birthday and it was supposed to be a promising weekend of powder and mountain fun!….Except when we arrived it proceeded to rain for the next two days so we looked to the next best things the town have to offer.

Bestie's Birthday! Ready for a weekend of snow and fun!

I can't believe how cool the topsheets are getting on ski's these days!

So after a day at Castle Mountain and some massages at the King Fir Spa, we headed out to Picnic. A quaint boutique restaurant in the upstairs of a turn of the century livery building, that served possibly the best bison short-ribs and polenta that I had every encountered. I also quite enjoyed the start of the evening “picnic” where you get to choose a variety of items with breads and spreads to share with your table.

Bison Short-Ribs to Die For

I was surprised at both the quality of meal and the ambiance in the restaurant. With thick stone walls, rough burlap  covered chandeliers, there is a rustic elegance that I loved about the place. I would recommend it and go back any day.

After some continued celebration at the Brick House that night, we woke up to another day of 9 degrees and raining- I guess the Elko dogsled race is out so we turned to the comforting food of Fernie again. This time we went to Loaf Bakery and found a delightful carb-filled adventure of miners’s pies, chocolate croissants, cinnamon rolls and other delicious breads such as Apple & Cider and the Fernie Bloomer. Truly nothing better than sitting on an enclosed porch, the sound of rain on a tin roof with a cappuccino in hand and the smell of fresh baking. I’m ok with waiting for the next round of powder to come along.

Fresh made bread line the walls of the small house, it smells amazing!
