Liebster Award from Cavalcade!!

I was kindly nominated a while back from one of my favourite blogs, Cavalcade. Fellow blogger Danielle asked Cashmere & Camo, among others to answer some of her questions, allowing her and you to get to know C&C a little better. So without further adieu here are the Liebster Award Q&A’s!

1.   What was your favorite horse related book growing up?

My favourite horse related books were all of Walter Farley’s series on the Black Stallion, I think I read them all- I was a serious book worm.

2.  What is your greatest accomplishment to date?

To-date I think my greatest achievement has been starting my own oil & gas service company. It’s a fast-moving, über competitive, male dominated business so I feel like I’ve cut my teeth at a relatively young age.

3.  What is your favorite song right now?

My taste in music seems to change daily but I’m really liking Serena Rider (What I Wouldn’t Do), The Lumineers & Pistol Annie’s (we were only supposed to pick one song right??)

4.   Did you ride or own a horse growing up?

I grew up around horses and was gifted one by my grandparents at the age of 5, we re-located when I was a kid and our lifestyle along with having horses changed. Fast forward to the age of 28 and I finally had the financial means to purchase a horse again and start riding. Even having grown up with it, I was a bit like a fish out of water with it at first. I definitely felt like the ‘Newbie” at the barn.

5.   What is the best memory from your childhood?

Hmmm… this one is a hard one. I have great memories of growing up, mostly all of the outdoors because my family was very active with hiking, hunting, skiing ect. I think some of my best memories center around summertime and spending time at the lake swimming, camping and hanging out around a fire.

6.   Which season do you most enjoy?

Hands down for me, FALL. I love the crisp cool mornings and warm lazy evenings. The fact that I can still enjoy some amazing trail rides or spend time in the woods hunting. Plus I think fall fashion and harvest recipes are hands down the best 😉

7.   What time period would you travel to if you could travel back in time? Why?

Probably the short windows of summer break during university. You felt like the world was your oyster with minimal responsibilities in life except to save up enough to get through the next year. Life was simple.

8.  What is your favorite meal to cook at home? Care to share the recipe?

My favourites seem to vary with the season’s. Right now it seems to be BBQ’d sun-dried tomato and feta stuffed chicken thighs with grilled veggies and a Summer Crumble for dessert. I use whatever is in season for the crumble, peaches, raspberries, blueberries or cherries its dead simple to make and has a smoky flavour if you do it on the BBQ.

9.  Favorite store?

Right now, Target because it’s new to Canada and I always seem to find something in there that I need!

10. Tea or coffee?

Strong coffee in the mornings and tea at night. I’m an unbiased caffeine participant.

11.  Why do you blog?

My blogging helps me have a creative outlet that I wouldn’t normally have in my work life that often feels very black & white. It has also given me the opportunity to meet many amazing people and form friendships over the years that I wouldn’t have realized had I not been blogging.

Years ago I was in a women in leadership seminar and they made us write down our top 100 goals for our lives. Looking back on that list, I realize that many of the goals I wanted to achieve related more to blogging than it did to the current career path I was on. So I figure as long as I keep enjoying it, then the blog will continue to evolve. And out of that seminar is a quote I hold near and dear, which is the mantra for Cashmere & Camo. It is “What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” ~ Mary Oliver. So I think I’ll just keep asking that and see where the answers lead me…

Thank you so much to Danielle at Cavalcade for nominating C&C for a Liebster! I would like to nominate the following blogs for a Liebster award so we can learn more about them:
