Read the North- The Nightingale Won’t Let You Sleep

Read the North

I hope everyone is having a fantastic May Long weekend! I for one always signify the start of summer with this holiday, it seems like all things summer get kicked off this weekend. And for me there is nothing better than outdoor living, camping and of course relaxing with a great read. I was excited when Chapters.Indigo asked me to be part of their Read the North campaign, a curated collection of books and home goods by some of Canada’s very best authors and makers,  all in time to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday which is just around the corner.

The book I’m reading this month is called The Nightingale Won’t Let You Sleep, by Steve Heighton. A read that covers lots of heavy topics such as PTSD and political turmoil of a resort area during and after war, but it also includes a love story and a journey of self discovery that find balance in the book. To be honest it took me a bit to get into the book, the Greek language references and syntax used made it difficult to flow into at the beginning, but part way through, the characters and setting really grew on me. The book will take you to a different land and is a great book to mentally escape for the day to the beach in a sunny resort town in Europe.
