Spring Break Reading List

Books for Springbreak

Over the course of the winter I was able to hunker down and read a quite a few books. With the spring and Easter break coming up, I wanted to share those that are the perfect mental escape as we head into warmer days, or endure the last few snow storms…

Spring Break Reads

YES PLEASE- Amy Poehler’s candid and funny book that revolves around her past and present life, career, kids and marriage as she sees it. It’s a collection of stories and doesn’t necessarily follow a “flow”, so be prepared for the obscure at times. I particularly enjoyed her hilarious “Birth Plan” and how she advises to treat your career like a bad boyfriend. Definitely an entertaining, fun read.

SHOPAHOLIC TO THE STARS- If you’ve ever read any of the other Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella, you know this is pure sugar for the mind. It’s light, easy and entertaining soap/Rom-com combo because let’s face it not all of us want to read about nuclear physics while on vacation. Just relax and indulge.

THE LONGEST RIDE– Truthfully, I’m not a huge Nicholas Sparks fan, however this book had cowboy boots on the front of it and we know how I feel about cowboy boots… But I decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised as it wasn’t as “sappy” as some of the other Sparks stories. It has an interesting plot, will all elements of love, joy and sorrow that you see in the other novels.

THE ORENDA- Intense is the one word I would use to describe this Joseph Boyden book. The book is historically based on the first nations history in eastern Canada and I think even if you’re not Canadian, read this book as it’s an amazing story. From the first few pages I had a hard time putting this down, which is why I think it’s perfect if you have a few spare days on your hands.

NORTH OF NORMAL- This memoir by Cea Sunrise Person has it all as she describes her crazy childhood growing up in the wilderness with her hippie family. Similar to the The Glass Castle, I found Cea’s story intriguing.
