My Four Legged Challenge

My horse Nameoka and riding is something I rarely write about. Truth be known there is a deeper rooted issue to why and it’s become hard to admit. A few years back after spending far too many hours at work and getting out of a bad relationship, I decided to finally do something for myself and bought my horse. At the time I felt like it was bringing me closer to living as my genuine self which don’t get me wrong did, but other than that there was no other real objective than that. Lately I started to ask myself what was the purpose? Did I need one other than just to enjoy my time with her?

After being a country girl reformed to the city for many years I had to start from the ground up. If I look back on where I started, I’ve learned lots~ but have become frustrated with the plateau. I’ll admit riding circles with no objective got boring for me, also throw in the fact I had purchased a green horse I had large periods of time where I felt we were going nowhere fast and wondered if I was the only person who felt this way?

But over the years I’ve developed a great bond with my sweet, patient little mare. She takes care of me and I spoil my big paint “lab”. I realize that it’s ok to just enjoy the time with her on the trail or doing circles and that for me horses are 1 part therapeutic, 1 part lifestyle and the remainder to genuinely learn about and understand horsemanship.

So after a low period, chalk with frustration, decreased time riding and a few tears I’ve decided it’s time to change. First I’m admitting my faults on the blog and trust me this is a tough one to do but I’m human and maybe someone feels the same way or can offer some advice. Second the blog is a great forum to break down horsemanship into bite size chunks, which in no shape or form will I EVER profess to be an expert. It will force me to challenge myself and learn and I promise I’ll make it entertaining along the way.

Ah, you & FTW should come ride out here…! Would be a blast….and we’re not far from really warm weather to boot.

Great for you to re-grasp your roots 🙂 That is on my goals for 2012 as well. Get back to basics, find my own “pony” to share those moments with.

Thanks Gail, it’s truly one of the best choices I’ve ever made, sometimes I just lose track of that 🙂 which is why I wrote the post!
