Ok guys, last week I shared two of my spring fashion obsessions with you- Graphic tees and Vintage Levi’s and I’m pretty sure Ragweed Clothing was the impetus behind the whole thing. So I wanted to introduce you to this up and coming brand, designed right here in Calgary!
At just 22, owner and creator Alex Callaghan is taking Insta by storm with her cool retro inspired designs and custom vintage denim. And she’s also one of the driving forces behind the “Modern West” store, Cody & Sioux as manager and buyer, located right here in Calgary.
A country girl at heart, Alex grew up east of Calgary in a lovely old log house, immersed with horses, one old paint pony in particular that she’s had for 11 years and just did the Ski Jour at the Polo Club with. When Alex isn’t busy doing Ragweed, School or Cody & Sioux stuff, on the weekends she works part time for Doug Reinhardt, a local cutting horse trainer. Can you say busy lady!
And how did the idea of Ragweed come about you ask? Well the name is a spin off from the band Cross Canadian Ragweed and it suits the brand perfectly. As for the designs, Alex has always been a creator and interested in fashion. With her personal style a uniform of tees and jeans, Alex took her style and love for vintage/retro vibes to inspire and create her collection. Stay tuned for a Bruce Springsteen tee coming out soon!
Not one to keep up with trends, Ragweed does custom orders for embroidery which is falling right in line with a major spring and summer must have. It’s a great way to make an old pair of denim unique and refreshed, especially with vintage/70’s style being so popular at the moment.
I for one can’t wait to see what she come out with this year, and make sure you follow Ragweed on Instagram @ragweedclothing because all those custom/vintage jeans and shorts that she creates, are only limited quantities so you have to act quick when she posts!
