Spring Trends I’m Loving

Spring Fashion

Regardless of the weather, I am marching myself into spring and hoping my fashion leads the way! In fairness I have been thinking about it since November as my visit to Australia fell directly in their spring season and the clothing to go with! So today I thought I’d share some of the spring trends I’m currently loving and think I’ll try and embrace as we head into warmer days:

Pattern Play- I love a bright floral or bold stripe for spring and summer. Why not mix them up or mix them together? If you want a more subtle look, you can separate the patterns in your wardrobe so they don’t appear layered, for example in this outfit I’m added a floral pump with this striped and polkadot blouse, but the blush pants (yes they are blush) creates a buffer so the pattern play isn’t as bold. If you’re looking to make a statement layer them on top of one another, like a blouse with a skirt or bold jacket over a print blouse.

Bold Red & Millennial Pink-  WTF is Millennial Pink you’re asking? Well, that’s the tricky part. It’s sort of a grapefruit shade of apricotty salmon. Sounds ummm pretty right? Well apparently Millennial Pink can be a colour that is quite close to your skin colour if you have that skin tone?? For simplicity sake- let’s call it a sort-of blush tone. My pants are this blush tone, even though they look closer to white- which given the current winter my legs are very, very white. However confusing this tonal range of “pink” can be, I have always loved mixing a bright red with a pink for contrast. So don’t be afraid to mix it up, whatever shade of pink and red you have!

Ruffles and Fringe- I have always been a proponent of ruffles and fringe with western fashion and I think we’re seeing it more mainstream this year. We’re seeing more designers introduce western elements into their collections. I love that this Paige 1912 Salinas shirt is a performance western shirt designed and functionally made for the arena, yet I can still wear it to a fashion show downtown or to the office! Fringe is also fitting the same mold by delivering functional items that can be worn both in the day and at night- it’s not just for parties and events anymore, fringe and ruffles are an all day affair!

Bold Outerwear- While I’m not about wearing the shiny or see through plastic anorak’s that came out of fashion week or that are being showcased by far trendier fashion influencers, I do love a statement coat. If you’re looking to upgrade your spring outerwear, try a fun rain jacket or trench that hits length.
