Welcome to Fall Everyone! This is truly my favourite time of the year and one that I always find so exciting with all fashion transitioning into cooler days. It’s a great time to start incorporating layers of texture with pattern and also add a touch of drama to your outfit. I wanted to share some of my top picks as we head into the new season that you may already have in your closet or some trends that you can spice up an old classic with. Either way, make sure you add your own flair to make the look uniquely yours! I have been busy creating a Fall Pinboard here and yet as much as I’m drawn to a cleaner modern look at the moment my outfits always seem add a western edge to them by adding accessories here and there. Some of my favorite outfit formula’s this season include:
Moody Florals
Dress: Ever New Melbourne | Boots: Saks Off 5th | Hat: Charlie 1 Horse
I still am in love with a dark, moody floral dress for the season. The last few years it has been a staple piece that I have updated in my wardrobe and find so versatile to wear at the office or even out on the weekend as a more casual look with boots and a hat. I also think you can “toughen” it up with some moto boots and a leather jacket for a more elevated outfit if you want to go bold. I don’t think you will ever regret adding a fall floral to your wardrobe whether it be a dress, skirt or blouse.
MODERN LEOPARD
Suede Moto Jacket: Marshalls | Skirt: Simons | Frye Mules: Winners
I fell in love with snake print this spring and just like every other girl, am loving the leopard trend this fall. However I have to say it’s the modern print of leopard I’ve fallen for and not the campy one from the 80’s you might remember. Since leopard can essentially act as a neutral, it’s great to add with colour and also act as the statement piece in an outfit. I love this flowy maxi that I found at Simons. It’s a great length for work with a blouse or as seen here with a lace cami and suede moto jacket. I added some chunky heeled Frye mules that I found for a steal at Winners to give the outfit a little bit more of an edgy feel. I also think with a cropped chunky sweater and some tall boots, this skirt would transition nicely into winter, which is important when you are looking for trendy pieces that can still be versatile from season to season in your wardrobe.
CAPES and ponchos
The transition to heavier outerwear can be so tricky with the early fall weather. From cooler mornings to sweltering afternoons, sometimes you need something lightweight that can be layered and discarded as required. I love the versatility of a cape or poncho for this reason. As the season goes on and we transition into winter it can then go from outerwear to an actual layer under a jacket. I found this ultra soft poncho with fringe at a local farmer’s market for a steal. However, found something similar here to share with you. To elevate the look of your poncho or cape, try a tone on tone look. For example an all black ensemble, cape paired with leather leggings and boots. Or in this example, a mix of lighter neutrals as I have with the cream, browns and tans. The OTK boots shown here are Lucky Brand that I found last season at Saks Off 5th, however you can find a similar style here.
WARM NEUTRALS
Leather Jacket: Similar Here | Sweater Dress: Joe Fresh | Booties: Chinese Laundry
If it says toffee, caramel or rust I am all for it this season as I am loving all the warm neutral tones. I also am liking a minimalistic look and this sleeveless sweater dress paired with a leather jacket is an easy day to night look as we head into fall. The great thing about streamlined knits is the ability to layer them as the temperatures continue to fall. Try playing around and stacking your knits for a different look. Here I paired it with some snakeskin booties, which I am still loving as an accent to this season’s outfit’s.
SWEATER COATS
Sweater Coat : Zara | Mules: Frye | Hat: Charlie 1 Horse
Oversized, cozy “sweater coats” or “coatigans” are popular this fall as they are the softer, slouchy option to a structured coat. They are also the perfect weight for transitioning from warmer weather to cooler fall mornings and evenings. It can also be a fun way to play with pattern in your outerwear without the price tag of buying a structured coat or jacket. I love the western inspired pattern of this last season Zara sweater coat that I actually got at a blogger sale this summer (never worn!). You may be able to find something similar on Ebay. Or if you want to treat yourself, Double D Ranch has a gorgeous option in their Cattlemen Collection this fall.
