Did you know the Caesar, or Bloody Caesar drink was first concocted in Calgary in 1969 by an Italian Restaurant? The drink is similar to a Bloody Mary but distinctively spicy in taste. Though it typically contains vodka, someone made it for me with the clear, White Owl Whisky that Highwood Distillery introduced earlier this year. I’m not a big Whisky fan normally, but really enjoyed this combination in a Caesar, who knows what other mixed drinks you could try it in.
I have found other caesar recipes that use the unfiltered “brown” whisky as well, that might be worth a try:
Ingredients:
– 1 oz. Canadian Club or Crown Royal whisky
– 1/2 oz lime juice
– Clamato Juice
– Dash of pepper
– Dash of celery salt
– Dash of Worcestershire
– Dash of tabasco
Using a lowball glass, rim with a slice of lemon and then dip into celery salt. Fill glass 3/4 full with ice cubes. Pour 1 1/2 oz of Classic 12 over ice. Fill glass with Clamato juice. Add four dashes of Tabasco and 2 dashes of Worcestershire sauce. Stir gently. Garnish with a celery stick, pickled bean or asparagus and lemon slice.
