Remember the simple pleasure of decorating eggs for Easter? I looked for an egg decorating kit for weeks to no avail unless I wanted to go the plain old sticker route, but what’s the fun in that? I admit, if it wasn’t snowing out I normally would never sit still to complete this task but I found it incredibly fun and makes a great conversation piece wherever you decide to showcase it. Although I wouldn’t think this is the cleanest assignment if you have younger helpers, the traditional decorating route with dye, sparkles, glue and colourful tissue paper is a fun activity for the afternoon.
It was simple and cheap- all supplies (minus the eggs) were purchased at a Dollar Store for $7. With glitter, paint, brushes and dye in hand I set out to decorate a dozen brown eggs. White definitely gives more contrast with the dye but I like the natural look of brown. Just a tip if you are going to use a dye, natural or store bought combine 1 tsp vinegar in 1/2 cup boiling water prior to mixing. Also if you like a tie-dyed look you can add cooking oil to the dye. I also created some decoupage eggs by gluing down smaller pictures and coloured tissues. Also if you want a stencil look you could try drawing with a wax pencil prior to dying the egg. Have fun with it, I know I may have went overboard with the glitter!
