Cactus Skirt (online here) | White Tee | Necklace | Belt and Purse (old)
I find it pretty cool that quite a few large TV and movie productions are filmed right in my neighbourhood. It’s also great for photos and touring to have such interesting backdrops to play with. One of the more consistent productions that I have shot in front of the same places they have filmed at before is Heartland. A Canadian production (in it’s 10th season running for anyone who hasn’t seen it) that depicts a modern ranching family in the heart of the Canadian west.
So when I put on this cactus inspired outfit, I just felt the shoot had to be done at Maggie’s Diner, Tack & Feed store in downtown High River. I thought it would be a quiet night on account of the long weekend, but heck no- turns out the town has issued a film locations map of the city, indicating where productions from Superman to Heartland have been filmed so you can go on a self guided walking tour. Well everyone must have thought I was a hardcore Super Fan trucking around with my tripod and get down to business camera while they all took IPHONE selfies… But after taking my photos and a few volunteered group shots I wandered around the rest of downtown which has some great murals, historical facts oh and some of my favourite boutiques like White Bull Clothing Co. and Pixie Hollow. And you can never go wrong by stopping for a homestyle burger and shake at the Hitchin Post Drive-In!
