Turquoise Blazer | Lace-Hem Henley Top | Distressed Jeans

Over the last few years since starting our business I have had moments of identity crisis with my work attire. In my career and roles prior, the guidelines for dressing at work were simple, formal and professional. It was suits all the way and that in a sense was stress free when you basically had a box to stay inside, creative liberties might be spared to a colorful top underneath a blazer or a patterned skirt.

But now, running your own show and setting the guidelines, some days I don’t know how much rope to give myself and I also have to be cognizant to set an example. As much as I want to wear distressed denim with a slouchy top on days I don’t have client meetings, this must be reserved for weekend’s as I don’t want everyone else getting the memo that we are that relaxed about our office attire. So yes, this outfit was for a home office day, if I was to head to our main office, these jeans would be changed out for a darker, non ripped look.

So my general rule I use on a daily basis now is to keep it clean and pulled together for a certain level of polish. Denim is fine but has to be balanced with a blazer and a modest heel or boot. I also make sure that my tops and blouses stay on the conservative side (I work in a male dominated industry and have seen some ladies try and play the sexy outfit game in the boardroom or at a sales meeting, and lets just say that makes for a WHOLE other blog post). Logos Tees are a no for me as well. Bottom line keep it classy and use your best judgement. You want your work and your brain to shine, and it would be a shame for your outfit to overshadow that.
