Over the years, I’ve learned the way to better hair health includes incorporating a good dry shampoo into my routine. This is especially true in the winter when over washing and styling can cause a lot of damage to my color treated hair. Some of my friends can go days on dry shampoo in between washes, but I find my fine, blond hair will only go a day or two, before it starts to look like a helmet. So to find the right dry shampoo that has lasting power, I have tried quite a few. I wanted to share my top three picks that I have used that I feel have the best bang for your buck.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day– If anyone is going to do hair right, it should be Jennifer Aniston. I’ve used a few of the Living Proof products now (they still haven’t converted me on shampoo and conditioner yet) and have always been pleased with the results. This dry shampoo claims to reduce surface friction of the hair with their patented OFPMA molecule (how about that science for ya), this leaves you feeling like there is no buildup or visible residue in the hair, which I find most others do. Therefore, I find this is one of the only dry shampoo’s that actually makes you feel like you washed your hair versus just absorbing oil and controlling odor, making it my favorite dry shampoo to use on a daily basis as a pick me up. The scent is quite light and another big plus for me is it is not formulated with Parabens, Sulfates or Phthalates- something we could all do a little less with on a daily basis.
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Dry Shampoo– My biggest beef with most dry shampoo’s is the scent, it’s usually overwhelming and not in a good way. I’m in love with the Nirvana Black scent from Elizabeth and James and this dry shampoo manages to refresh and add volume while “lightly” scenting it as well. Sometimes I even find I’ll add a spritz to my freshly washed hair just before heading out of the house. The residue and buildup of this dry shampoo is minimal, however I find it doesn’t have the staying power throughout the day, you need to refresh to keep the volume going.
Bumble & Bumble Prêt-à-Powder– I call this my glamping shampoo. There is virtually no scent however the oil absorption and volume boosting that a little sprinkle of this stuff can do if you’ve missed 1 or 5 showers in the woods is impressive. I also use this stuff to give some grit and texture to my hair if I’m doing an updo as my fine hair usually won’t hold up if it’s freshly washed. A little goes a long way, however I would say the residue and buildup potential of this dry shampoo is worse than the other two, which can be problematic when you have darker hair.
