Since fall seems like the new year to me, it seems like a time when I am experimenting and trying new looks, styles or products as a tiny re-invention or evolution of my style. This season I’m feeling a bit more dramatic and moody, not in a bad way either. I’m just feeling like my wardrobe and overall style edging to a bit more flair than my typical laid back vibe.
So I’ve been wearing more of a “lip” these days, going for either a classic red but also loving the berry and blush shades. Eyebrows are bigger and bolder and should have a separate post on how many different pencils, brushes, gels and pens I’ve tried. For all the 90’s babies that went for the over plucked route, I feel your pain. I’m trying to primp mine as big as I can get them.
So some of the Fall Beauty products I’ve tried for the last month or so that I’m loving include:
- #1- SpaRItual Gold Polish in Smoke n’ Mirrors– This grey/blue creme polish is versatile for office and going out. Plus the Gold system has a self drying Gel topcoat and there’s no fuss getting it off with just a regular nail polish remover. Perfect for people like me who can’t hold a manicure together for more than 3 days.
#2-Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water– I swear by using a good silicone free primer (aka crack filler). It leaves you with a more polish palette to apply makeup or foundation and seems to make things last longer. I especially love this one as it’s lightweight yet leaves the skin feeling bright and even recharges your makeup if you are headed out for the evening and don’t have time to re-apply. Also makes any retouching of blog photos much easier!
#3-Airflash CC Primer– Heading into winter, especially in Alberta can be tricky for skin. The air gets drier, our skin is adjusting to changing conditions and can seem duller. I’m enjoying spritzing this on to “set” my makeup. Even during the day it seems to even and correct tone and adds some brightness.
#4-Rimmel Volume Colourist Mascara– Tinting my eyelashes is something I have done since a teenager. I have long lashes but they are virtually blonde once I take my mascara off so I was intrigued to try this one from Rimmel that promises to darken lashes over a 2 week period. While I did notice a difference on mine, the effect seems to fade very quickly so you have to continue use. Also I found I was using this almost as a primer and applying my regular mascara overtop as it didn’t seem to give enough oomph. Overall all though I thought it served the purpose as the gradual lash tint and a lash primer.
#5-Burts Bees Lipstick in Juniper Water– As I mentioned, I’ve been experimenting with a darker more dramatic lip for fall. I lip the Burts Bees Lipstick because it is very moisturizing with lots of great shades at a terrific sale price. So you don’t feel guilty if you try one or two shades out instead of some of the $40 + department store brands. The Juniper Water is my favourite dramatic shade, followed by the Ruby Ripple and Blush Basin.
