It seems that the new craze is to visit a food truck in your vicinity and sample their unique twist on American classics from burgers to homestyle BBQ. These “foodie” trucks are turning the curb into the most popular dining spot of the summer. Charcut’s Alley Burger in Calgary announces its location daily on twitter @alleyburger and are serving up gourmet burgers and duck-fat-fried poutine to list a few of the items on the menu.
As I’ve been locked down in house moving hell, chef Drew Masterman (twitter@drewmasterman1) and wife Jen headed down to the Alleyburger truck to check out the buzz. With a lineup about 80 deep at anytime, they waited 1 hour and 45 minutes to get their gourmet burger and poutine. The verdict? It was well worth the wait for their hand-crafted burgers with fixings like egg, piripiri ailoi and Quebec cheese curds and the crowd was friendly making a fun curb-side outing.
