Breakfast is the one meal a day I always struggle with. I’m a lover of a late breakfast or brunch, but getting in “the most important meal of the day” can be hard for me. So I’ve been making a conscious effort to start the day off right and try and have a healthy breakfast in the mornings. To help things out I’ve even decided to bring groceries into the office so that everyone has healthier options in front of them in the morning. Not only does it start the day off right, it saves everyone from running down and grabbing a pastry at Starbucks everyday.
One of my favorites is a colorful mix of tropical fruits with homemade granola, coconut Greek yogurt, a spoonful of flax seeds, powdered collagen and coconut ribbons to top things off. Why collagen you ask? A collagen supplement has been shown to your hair, skin, nails and joints, especially as levels begin to decline in our bodies after the age of 30. Another trick I read was to keep your food bright and colorful. That means you are eating lots of vitamins and minerals that your body needs. So I try and tell myself if it’s beige and bland shut it down. Trying to promote this in the office we’ve also made sure that fresh fruit and veggies are readily washed and available to snack on and the muffins and cookies kept to a minimum. And I know the benefits of making time to fit in a healthy breakfast- I’m noticing I have better concentration later on in my day- usually I would power out by 2 pm on a weekday. As well as making better choices and snacking less later on in the afternoon and evenings.
