My Gilty Pleasure

First off I’ll take my turn to stand up and say, “My name is Brandy and I’m addicted to Gilt“.  I realized I might have a problem when a friend text me back a week ago and said, “Do you need an intervention? I think every text has the world Gilt in it for the last two weeks“…

For those of you unfamiliar with this glorious utopia… umm I mean website, it provides flash sales of designers brands and EVERYDAY is a new day on Gilt. Literally at 10am MST a plethora of new sales starts and you never know what treasure you might find. The disappointing part is they only have a certain number of each in a certain size, so it can literally become a virtual foot race to acquire the colorblocked sky-high heel of your choice.

Which is why I simply can’t wait until I get out of meetings to look at lunch! There would be nothing left for goodness sakes, so I am so relieved there is a handy Iphone App that leads me to Gilt everyday, I can even sit in meetings and peruse when the conversation gets to a low point. However I’m realizing this too is becoming an issue, as the other day my meeting went something like this, “Well as we can see from the 5 year forecast our economics look… BEEP… BEEP“, “You’re Gilt Sales Have Started!!” I pause and look down, silently giving myself the willpower not to push the message and start shopping in front of my co-workers.  What the heck, just a little look can’t hurt… and 30 seconds in I spot it, a gorgeous Rebecca Minkoff tote, which I quickly justify will be a wonderful carry-on for an airplane?

I text my bestie (AKA my sponsor) to let her know my predicament and to talk me down, her response, “I say enjoy your hard-earned money, Python will go great with the pastel spring trend“… Taking that sage advice, I quickly go to check-out and then check back in to my meeting. “Crisis Averted“, I say and then think OK this is a problem.  But tomorrow I know like Pavlov’s Dog, when that little bell goes again I’ll be grabbing for my phone… The first step to recovery is admitting it right?

I’ve never signed up for Gilt before, I hear good things but well… it’s an addiction that I might have to try later.

Raquel, if you don’t have to, DON”T. Especially not having to pay duty tax like I do, which makes me think twice about the purchase. I shudder to think the ruin it would bring to my life 🙂

Oooooh. That sounds dangerous, but I’m intrigued…

I was really good last week. Spent the whole week in the city and didn’t go shopping. At all!!! Clearly it’s time for a reward.

🙂
