One Lone Justin Boot

On Friday I posted about Justin Boot’s Centennial creation for the Calgary Stampede. One of the things I failed to mention about Justin Boots is they are built rough, tough and ment to last. The story I have about the lone little cowboy boot definitely proves that!

My parents are both proud owners of Justin boots. They enjoy their time with horses and have always incorporated them in their outdoor lifestyle. Although my father is an oil patch warrior, he always tries to make it home for special events. So last year, my dad arrived home to celebrate their 36th wedding anniversary. It was a leisurely day as they decided to take the horses out for a spin in the back 40. Things went sideways as my dad’s green 3-year-old paint horse, Rocky decided to show his displeasure with the ride which resulted in my dad coming off and Rocky’s front half coming down on my dad’s leg.

My dad said he pretty much knew he was in rough shape as soon as he looked down at his one leg only to see one boot clad foot pointing the opposite direction it was supposed to be. Not only was it a sad day that my dad had to have 6 pins, 2 plates and multiple surgeries to repair the shattered and completely dislocated ankle, but he was REALLY upset the doc’s had to cut off his boot. So to pay homage to a favourite pair of boots, my mom planted pansies in the lone survivor where it proudly sits on the front porch.
