Hand’s up if you’re like me and love taking your workout outside. Whenever the weather permits I try and get out for at least 30 minutes a day for some type of activity. I like to break it up with running, hiking, biking or even the water to keep myself motivated. Since I hate to run, one of the tricks I’ve been using is to alternate running hard for 2 minutes and then slowing to a fast walk for 1 minute, it breaks up the time and keeps my heart rate elevated. Finding natural stairs or a hill to climb is another trick I use and try and build it into a circuit.
To compliment the cardio, I try and find an area where I can do some body weight exercises, like lunges, box jumps, push ups etc.
Some other tips to keeping motivated to fit in that 30 minutes a day:
1. Use a tracking App or pedometer. It feels rewarding knowing how many steps you’ve done that day.
2. Use the buddy system. Invite a friend to come along, or at least challenge each other to share your workout goals and outcomes for the day. I know texting my girlfriend what I did for the day holds me accountable!
3. Download fitness Apps and workouts. There are a number of fitness apps and workouts out there that you can customize for your goals and give daily workouts that don’t have to be done just in the gym. I especially like the ones that incorporate meal and on the go workouts like MyFitnessPal or NIke + Training Club.
4. Stylish Workout Gear- I find the act of putting on workout wear mentally puts me in a space to move and sweat. Maybe simply wearing fitness attire tricks the mind into thinking it’s time for exercise, either way it seems to work for me! I was introduced to the company Fabletics a few month back and love their VIP program and the fact they have have new outfits- not just pieces each month and that I can incorporate into everyday wear which keeps me moving!
