This winter we have already been getting record snowfalls, which means closely watching the weather reports and striking out to the mountains for fresh powder. Snow gear has evolved so much over the years that a gal has much more choice in attire and equipment than the powder pink one piece and matching fuzzy headband.
This season Manitobah Mukluk and Burton collaborated to create the Momento mukluk inspired snowboard boot. The one of a kind snowboard boot that combines performance and fashion on the hill.
In preparation for the Sochi Olympics, US downhill skier Lindsay Vonn collaborated with Cynthia Rowley to create 4 unique and fashionable helmet designs for her to shred the course with in February. Fans on Lindsay’s facebook page were asked to vote on their favourite design. With the winning design being worn at the Olympics and auctioned off to charity later.
Ski’s have evolved drastically over the years with rockered technology, increasing manueverablity and ease of use on the mountains. And with that redesign under the top sheet is some customized artisan designs to finish things off. Canadian grown Skevik Ski’s has local artists create their top sheets like the Arbutus and Anderson designs above.
Finally not only have the technology and fashion changed on the hills, but also our attitudes. More than ever girls are embracing being “skier girls”, recognized athletes that can play hard and keep up with the boys. Big Mountain skier, Lynsey Dyer is promoting the kickstarter “Pretty Faces”, a film celebrating women’s achievement in the mountains while inspiring girls of all ages to believe in their dreams. Check out the short film or visit the site for more info on the project.
