Every year hundreds of thousands flock to Calgary for the Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth. It’s a celebration of our western history and I felt it only right to share some of the tips and tricks I’ve learned about navigating Stampede and the plethora of events that are going on around the city at any one time during the 10 days. It can be daunting, it can be exhausting- Stampede is definatley not for the faint of heart folks and to get the most out of it, you are going to want to pace yourself. This is a marathon, not a sprint…
Pancake Breakfasts– If you are visiting or lived your entire life in Calgary- it almost seems to be a requirement to attend at least one Stampede breakfast. They are so paramount to the 10 days of Stampede that there is a website dedicated to showing and sharing where all and any breakfasts are going on during Stampede. Best part- they are typically FREE!
Family Day Free Admission- No doubt the entry fees at the grounds get steep. Not to mention all the things you want to do once you are in the doors. So the first Sunday of Stampede offers free admission between 7:30-11:00 am.
The Roundup Music Fest- Is a must go for concert goer’s as year after year, the Roundup features and all star lineup for all ages. Just make sure to dress for the weather and hydrate becasue it is a long shift!
BBQ Lunch at the Palomino- It wouldn’t a a Stampede without a stop for some BBQ, beers and music at the Palomino in Calgary.
Coke Stage- Everyday, headliners are featured here and the great thing, its included with your gate admission. Tip- get there early if you really want to see a certain act- it’s typically standing room only.
Rush Seating for Rodeo and Chuckwagons- Love the action of the rodeo and chuckwagons but not the pricey tickets that go with? Grab a rush ticket before the event starts and you can grab a spot to watch on the Tarmack, which can be a great spot and time with folks. Plus if you stay for the Grandstand show and Fireworks- you are right in the action!
Fluor Rope Square- Want to take in some Stampede vibe but avoid the grounds- check out the daily activites at Olympic Plaza and it’s Free!
Midway Foods- Try the passport challenge with all the new Midway Foods for 2019! If you try 10 of teh 14 new foods you can enter to win the grand prize draw.
Barn Tour and Elbow River Camp– Once in the gates, it’s easy to be swept into the Midway and the crowds towards the grandstands- but take a look at the map and take a detour through the barns with the beautiful animals and stroll across the river to the historical Elbow River Camp. If you’ve never been, you’ll wonder how you missed it before!
