Sometimes I go through a style rut. You know those phases where you tend to gravitate to the same pieces, the same cuts and colours leaving you thinking, I’ve been here before? When we’ve been driving in that rut for a while, sometimes we need a little 3rd party help to push us out back onto the road of fun fashion. I was intrigued to see J.Crew’s Very Personal Stylist service on their website. And then when I went to their new Calgary opening, I had to test drive it for myself to see if it would really work and help me out.
I have to say I was totally impressed. First off they remember you on a first name basis- in a world of too busy, this personal touch meant a lot to me. They spend time and ask the right questions to determine what you like and what you might be a bit too comfortable with and help break you out of that habit, or show you some options that are a bit off your typical center but still well within your comfort zone. My rule of the night was no denim and no turquoise!
Once I had found a dress I loved, they showed me how to accessorize it J.Crew style- the key is layering statement pieces without making it look gaudy. Hint- vary the length of the pieces so they all show but are not too widely or on top of each other. It seems like the more the merrier as well. I also love the concept that the service is complimentary and available 24/7 if you are shopping on their website or through the phone. Plus the shipping is free to your doorstep if you don’t live close enough to a store or they just don’t have what you’re looking for at one location.
